Description:
Gregarious Rose Lehman, who's always the life of the Amish youth singings, is determined to marry the bishop's son, Reuben Byler--until the handsome Army buddy of her future brother-in-law shows up in Lancaster County. In comparison to Trevor, Reuben seems downright boring. Trevor shares Rose's sense of fun and adventure, and her easygoing disposition.
When her sister Lila's buggy is rear-ended and Lila is horribly injured, Rose finds herself with more freedom than she's ever experienced. Everyone is so concerned about Lila that no one realizes Rose is sneaking out with Trevor. Except for Reuben. But in his usual passive way, he doesn't confront her, nor does he address the situation with her Dat or anyone else in the district. Rose appreciates Reuben's discretion, but she also resents it. Part of her relishes the freedom she's found with Trevor, but the other part of her wishes Reuben would "fight" for her, as much as any Amish man would. Too late, she realizes the foolish choice she's made. Has she ruined her best chance at love, or is there another path to happiness she just hasn't seen yet?
My thoughts on the book:
Rose craves family and belonging and she thinks she has found that with the Bishops son Rueben. But when it seems he states to pull away some Rose wonders would it really hurt to have some "running around time" since she never did that when she was younger, its not likely to hurt anyone right? When Rose's sister is hurt in a buggy accident Rose uses this opportunity to get maybe a little to close to her future brother-in laws best friend. Rueben wants a family and has his eyes set of Rose's but something seems to be happening between them and she seems to be pulling way. He wishes his Dat would set in and stop the from having anything to do with there neighbors, but it seems there are big problems he doesn't see coming. Will Rose and Rueben be able to continue the road to marriage or will it all be just to much for Rueben?
I really loved this story, there was one part an a small part where I found it predictable and I thought oh no, but then there were twist and turns all through out and it took me by surprise. I loved the storyline it was so well written and even though it followed the journey of the two sister and there men it was not at all hard to keep up with totally flowed and keeps your attention throughout. I loved that even though I did not read the previous book in the series it was easy to catch on what was going on. I now of course want to go back and read the others. This book is a amazing and so worth the read.
