Sunset Beach Mary Kay Andrews

Description:

Drue Campbell’s life is adrift. Out of a job and down on her luck, life doesn’t seem to be getting any better when her estranged father, Brice Campbell, a flamboyant personal injury attorney, shows up at her mother’s funeral after a twenty-year absence. Worse, he’s remarried – to Drue’s eighth grade frenemy, Wendy, now his office manager. And they’re offering her a job.

It seems like the job from hell, but the offer is sweetened by the news of her inheritance – her grandparents’ beach bungalow in the sleepy town of Sunset Beach, a charming but storm-damaged eyesore now surrounded by waterfront McMansions.

With no other prospects, Drue begrudgingly joins the firm, spending her days screening out the grifters whose phone calls flood the law office. Working with Wendy is no picnic either. But when a suspicious death at an exclusive beach resort nearby exposes possible corruption at her father’s firm, she goes from unwilling cubicle rat to unwitting investigator, and is drawn into a case that may – or may not – involve her father. With an office romance building, a decades-old missing persons case re-opened, and a cottage in rehab, one thing is for sure at Sunset Beach: there’s a storm on the horizon.

Sunset Beach is a compelling ride, full of Mary Kay Andrews' signature wit, heart, and charm.

My thoughts on the book:

This book is not a love story. Drue stumbles onto a cold case and sets out to solve it against the wishes of others. The story starts off casually but this when it starts it just keeps you guessing to the end. I really liked Yvonne and Aliyah, Yvonne's personality just jumps off the pages and has a way of laughing and having your heart break at the same time. There is a lot of strong language through out the book. I think what I wasn't a fan of in this book I found in the beginning that Drue came off very annoying and whiny I thought for someone who was 36 she would no come off as a 20 year old. I got too much sometimes. Overall the storyline was good and I enjoyed it in the end.

The Summer House Jenny Hale

Description:

Some summers will stay with you forever...
Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have finally done it: put their life savings into the beach house they admired through childhood summers, on the dazzling white sand of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. They’re going to buff the salt from its windows, paint its sun-bleached sidings, and open it as a bed and breakfast.

Callie’s too busy to think about her love life, but when she catches the attention of local heartthrob Luke Sullivan, his blue eyes and easy smile make it hard to say no. He’s heir to his father’s property empire, and the papers say he’s just another playboy, but as they laugh in the ocean waves, Callie realizes there’s more to this man than money and good looks.

Just when true happiness seems within reach, Callie and Olivia find a diary full of secrets... secrets that stretch across the island, and have the power to turn lives upside down. As Callie reads, she unravels a mystery that makes her heart drop through the floor.

Will Callie and Luke be pulled apart by the storm it unleashes, or can true love save them?

My thoughts on the book:

This is my first book by Ms. Hale and I will say I was not disappointed. What a fun read. I loved the friendship between Callie and Olivia, they had this unbreakable bond that no matter what one faced they were there for each other. I hope to read Olivia's story some time soon. My heart broke a little for Callie she had faced so much and was afraid to love again, but she had this independent ready to kick butt if necessary. I really liked how this has a twist in the book that I didn't see coming and that this book was a good clean read. I think the only thing I missed was I wished that both Luke and Callie had parts in the book I would have loved to read more about Luke and his thoughts as the story was going on since he was such a big part of the book. Overall I don't feel like his story wasn't necessarily told but I wish there was more from him if that makes sense. Over all I found it hard to put this book down it was very heartwarming and captivating. You really can't go wrong with this fun love story. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. Killer Exposure Jessica Patch

Description:

A killer with a secret motive…
A mother with a secret baby

Crime scene photographer Greer Montgomery didn’t expect to witness a murder at a small-town carnival—nor to be rescued by the father of her secret baby. A storm chaser, Locke Gallagher often stares down death, but he’s never known true fear until Greer’s life is at risk. But how can he protect his newly discovered family when the killer could be anyone?

My thoughts on the book:

One thing I can say about this author is she never disappoints. Whenever I pick up one of her books I know I am in for a wild ride. That was very much the case with this book. It has you guessing every which was trying to figure out what's going to happen next and leaves you guessing to the last possible second. I will say this I think I will never look at another carnival the same way after reading this book.... With out giving anything away there is a moment in the book where two characters have a heart to heart and it really moved me, it felt so personal. I really enjoyed how this author took two very broken characters and made them feel real. I really enjoyed how strong willed and a fighter Greer was but also how vulnerable she could be. I have to say it wasn't like there was just one hero in this story but a few. This book is a good clean read, grab it you will not be disappointed just be ready to not want to put the book down.

Becoming Us Robin Jones Gunn -Haven Makers Series #1

Description:

From the author of the best-selling Christy Miller and Sisterchicks series comes a refreshing novel that celebrates the gift of friendship.

Five young women, including beloved Gunn characters Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen, gather for a simple Christmas party and soon become unlikely best friends. Told from the viewpoint of Emily, a timid young mom going through a difficult season of life, the regular gatherings provide the much needed community she's longed for. As the women begin sharing their life stories in Becoming Us they are endeared to each other and find ways to challenge, encourage, and help each other become the nurturing mothers they wished they'd had when they were growing up. They see themselves as Haven Makers and unite to be remembered for what they do and not for what was done to them.

My thoughts on the book:

This book is from a first person point of view, that being said I am usually not a fan with this book the author did a really good job and not making the reader feel like you are missing anything. This story is in no way a love story. In a world where women can come off caddy and not welcoming, the author captured five women in different walks of life and has them come together to bond and find a way of lifting each other up and being there for each other no matter what one is facing. I loved that about this book and how uplifting it was to me as a reader. The struggles that Emily and her family faced felt like really anyone could face and it was how they handled it that gave hope. I really liked how the author draws you in and makes you feel like you are catching up with friends and less about reading a book. This book is a good clean read but does deal with adult situations.

With On a Summer Tide, bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher begins a brand-new contemporary romance series that is sure to delight her fans and draw new ones.

My thoughts on the book:

If you are familiar with this author's book's, this book is not an amish book. For the first few chapters I thought for sure the author was going to try and tell all three sisters stories in one book, after about the 2nd chapter I realized the book was mainly about Cam and her story with check-ins from her sisters. I found that Cam was high strung and all about just "getting" things done. I did like how she was blunt and to the point and you never had to wonder where you stood with her. I wasn't sure if as a reader we would find out how Libby Lost her life but that does get told later in the story and it totally broke my heart.  I really enjoyed the Island and I really loved Peg she was one of my favorite in the story over all. This book was a good clean read and suitable for all.

Will she stay in Lancaster, close to her family and the traditions of her past? Or learn from her grandfather's story and embrace a life of love and service in an uncertain future?

My thoughts on the book:

I really loved Aenti Suz hands down she was my favorite character in the book. I would say this book is geared toward young adults. I would say the characters still had a lot of learning to do and the author used the situations through out the book mature them for sure. I really enjoyed the story of LT. Shaw and Joe, when the story would move away from them the author had away of keeping your attention and leave you wanting more to find out what was going to happen next.
While I did find Leisel a little immature some times I also found that what she was facing was forcing her to grow up and evaluate her life and her choice. This book is from a first person point of view Over all this book is a good clean read and suitable for all ages. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. A Dash of Love Jill Sanders- Pride Oregon #1

Description:
Head back to Pride Oregon to find out what some of your favorite Jill Sanders’ characters are up to.

Sara Jordan has finally been given the chance to run The Golden Oar, a restaurant that’s been in her family for generations. But the sexy know-it-all carpenter that her uncle hired to make some changes, keeps getting in her way. She’ll have to use all her skills just to prove that she’s up to the task.

Parker was hired to bring new life to the old building, but he hadn’t expected sparks to fly from the owner’s niece. As a series of mysterious accidents start to plague the job site, he finds himself working one-on-one with the temptress to avoid losing everything.

My thoughts on the book:

When you have lost everything why not start over, in Pride OR where they take pride in all the do. This book was so fun I thought this book was going to be just your traditional love story only to have the author to add some suspense to it. What I liked about this suspense book it was built up the author didn't just through it out all at once. I love how with Sara's family it was just that all about family and town pride and all about being there for each other no matter what. I love how they included others in to make them "family" too. I felt like I was catching up with friends truly, this book is not a group of perfect people but a group of imperfect people who loved each other. There is some adult language, This book to was a quick read and oh so good.

Montana Redemption Amanda Renee

Description:

A secret worth protecting

Chelsea Logan has always had a weakness for bad boys, and Ryder Slade is no exception. She’s swept off her feet by the rugged cowboy. But that changes when Chelsea discovers that Ryder is out on parole after being convicted of killing his father. She can’t let an ex-con near her daughter or her reputation.

Yet something doesn’t add up. The Ryder she knows is thoughtful, caring and wonderful with her daughter, who is deaf. The lawyer in Chelsea won’t stop digging until she figures out what really happened. But can she ever trust a man who won’t tell her the truth, even if it is to protect someone he loves?

My thoughts on the book:

What I liked about this book is that the author kept it real, there was no perfect character in this book they are all just broken people living their lives and facing every day challenges. The characters seemed like every day people instead of just characters in a fictional story. The story just flowed and had a way of drawing you in and wanting to keep reading just to see what was going to happen next. There is some predictability to the story but unless you keep reading there’s no way to know what truly happened and how things will play out. This book has a few (I think I counted 2) curse words in the whole book. I found this book completely enjoyable, and I can't wait to see more what will happen in Saddle Ridge Montana.

But she needn’t worry. Dr. Logan West is too busy coping with an unexpected family, a radical lifestyle change, and an unruly pup to have any interest in his aloof and disagreeable neighbor.

Bestselling and award-winning author Irene Hannon invites readers back to the charming seaside town of Hope Harbor, where they are sure to find peace, healing, and a second chance at happiness.

My thoughts on the book:

When broken people need hope after loss or just finding a place to start over what better place then a town named Hope Harbor. I love the fun characters in this small town of Hope Harbor, no matter what or who needs something it seems like they are always willing to come together and help each other out. I love how the Priest and the pastor are always joking around yet always helping those in town no matter who it is. I think in all the books I have read in the Hope Harbor Series Charley is my favorite character he reminds me of the Bible verse that talks about Entertaining angels unaware. The story in this book just broke my heart about how the little girls lost so much. I had a hard time putting this book down while it dealt with a lot of loss it also had points of laughter and fun. I loved that this book was a good clean read and was so powerful. If you are looking for a really good book you can't go wrong with this series.
